Library of Things

In an effort to make the items in this special collection available to the widest range of patrons possible, we ask that you read and then accept the following guidelines prior to making your reservation(s).

Library of Things items are available to Half Hollow Hills Library district residents that are in good standing. Local Use Only library card holders are not permitted to borrow items from the Library of Things.
Library of Things items can be reserved up to 60 days in advance.
Reservations should be made for the date that you will pick the item(s) up at the library. If you pick your item(s) up late, you will lose that time on your reservation. Due dates will not be extended for items that have been picked up late!
Reservations are not transferable.
Items cannot be renewed or extended for any reason.
Each patron may have a maximum of 2 items on reserve within a 60-day period. Only 1 item may be checked out to a household at a time.
Items can be picked up during regular business hours at the Adult Reference desk.
All items must be returned directly to a staff member at the front Reference Desk. They are not to be placed in a book drop, left on the counter or left unattended anywhere in the Library!
Items in the Library of Things collection are lent out for a period of 7 days and may not be checked out consecutively. The same item is allowed to be checked out twice in one month.
All items must be returned prior to closing on the due date! If the library is closed on the day that the item would be due, it will be due by closing on the next day that the library is open.
The full value of the item will be charged to any patron that loses or damages an item in the Library of Things collection.
The Library has a limited number of items in the collection and therefore if an item comes back late or is lost, the Library may not be able to honor reservations. The Library is not responsible if an item is returned late, so please call before coming to pick up your item to make sure that it is available for you!
Items are available for pick-up and return at the Dix Hills Location.
If you no longer need an item, please call the Adult Reference desk to cancel your reservation at: 631-421-4530 ext. 1234.
The Library reserves the right to review and amend these guidelines as it becomes necessary.
