Recently, we were made aware that LyndaLibrary has transitioned to LinkedIn Learning. As part of that migration, users will be required to create or connect a LinkedIn profile. Library users would have their full name publicly searchable on Google and the LinkedIn platform. This requirement violates the American Library Association’s (ALA) Code of Ethics and the Library Bill of Rights.
Upon hearing of this, we have decided to discontinue service immediately and begin looking for a replacement. We are committed to ensuring our patrons privacy and safety within our walls or when accessing library resources online.
The Suffolk County Down Payment Assistance Program will be accepting applications from first time Suffolk County home-buyers for down payment assistance towards the purchase of a single family residence. This program is open to any and all income-eligible families who have not owned a home in the past 3 years.
The program will launch on August 19, 2019 and will be open for applications until December 31, 2019. Prior to the launch date, interested parties may contact Justin Hornung at (631) 853-5705 to be placed on a list to receive the Guidelines and Application via email immediately following the County Executive’s press conference. From that point on, the Guidelines and Application will be available on the website at www.SCDownPayment.com in English, Spanish and Creole.
We are collecting gently used Regents test books, as well as ACT and SAT exam books. These books will be donated to The Book Fairies, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that collects reading materials for people in need throughout metropolitan New York.
Donation bins are located at the library in Chestnut Hill and Melville Branch, near the Circulation Desks. Thank you in advance for your donation.
Books that will not be accepted include:
1. Books with mildew, “old book” smell, moth ball, or cigarette smoke smell 2. Books with ripped, torn or yellowed pages
