Create an Account
If this is your first time logging in, simply enter your library card number at the Log In screen and create an 8 character password on the same screen. On the next screen, you will be prompted to enter the password again 2 more times. Once that’s done, you will be in your library account. Passwords must include a capital letter and a number, and may not contain special characters.

**Recommended** Click on “Change Your Contact Information” and add your e-mail address. That will allow you to retrieve your password if you forget it.

 

Request an Item
Find the item using the Library catalog, click on the REQUEST ITEM text that appears at the top of the screen. You will be prompted to type in your library barcode and password. When your item is ready for pick up you will be contacted by email or phone. Items will be held for 7 DAYS from the date of notification unless you contact us to request an extension.

 

Self Checkout
You can now check your items out using our convenient Self Checkout stations. To use the Self Checkout, use your library barcode or your username and your password. Our friendly staff is here to assist you.

 

Pay My Fines
Library fines and fees may be paid at the Circulation Desk. Fines over $5 may be paid online using Mastercard, Visa, or PayPal. Borrowing rules can be found here.

Here is how to get started:

    1. Enter your library card barcode or username, then enter your password to log in to your library account.
    2. Select the amount in unpaid fines and bills.
    3. Select “PAY ONLINE.”
    4. Select the fines that you wish to pay, complete all of the relevant information, and click submit.
    5. A confirmation page will appear next. You can print a copy of your receipt at this time and/or click OK.
      If you have a valid email address, receipt of payment will be sent to the address you entered in step 4.

 

Renew an Item
Any circulating printed materials may be renewed by the borrower unless the item is on reserve. Renewals may be made in person at the library, or by telephone, and remotely by computer. Some A/V items may not be renewed.

Renewal of items borrowed from other libraries depend on the home library loan rules.

How to renew items:

    1. Enter your library card barcode or username, then enter your password to log in to your library account.
    2. Select the materials you want to renew by checking the boxes in the RENEW column and then click
      the Renew Marked button. If you want to renew everything, click the Renew ALL button.
    3. If you cannot renew items, a message will appear on the screen. If you are successful, a new due
      date will appear in the “STATUS” column. Always check the STATUS column for information on the success or failure of your renewal.

 

Auto Renew Items
You can sign up for this service at http://www.livebrary.com/autorenew (the link is in your patron record.)

  • If you opt into the auto renewal system it will check the status of all items checked out on your card four days before the due date. If your items are eligible for renewal, they will automatically be renewed with a confirmation email sent to you.
  • If any items due in four days are not eligible to be renewed (too many renewals, overdue, holds on items) they will not be renewed and an automatic courtesy notice will be sent.

 

Freeze Holds
Freezing a hold allows you to delay delivery of your requested items for a period time. When placing the hold check the box under the freeze column. The hold will not be filled until you unfreeze it.

 

Overdue and Reserve Pickup Notices by E-Mail
To receive overdue and reserve pickup notices by e-mail, contact the Circulation Department at 631-421-4530 to update your account. You will be asked to provide a current e-mail address.

 

Overdue and Reserve Pickup Notices by Text Message
To receive overdue and reserve pickup notices by text message, you will have to Log In and update your contact information. Standard message rates apply.

    1. Enter your library card barcode or username, then enter your password to log in to your library account.
    2. Click on “Change Your Contact Information” and add your cell phone number.
    3. Check the box next to “CLICK HERE TO OPT IN,” and click Submit.

You should receive a confirmation text message and need to reply YES. If you want to end all text message notices, send the word STOP, STOP ALL, END, QUIT, CANCEL, or UNSUBSCRIBE to 82453 or 35143 from your cell phone. You should receive a confirmation text that you have opted out. Please call the library if you have any questions or concerns.

Get or Renew a Library Card

Renew a Library Card Online
We will confirm by email when your card is renewed. You will still need to come in person to show a valid ID to complete the process.

Renew a Library Card In-Person
To renew a Half Hollow Hills Library card at the Circulation Desk, present your current library card and one of the following:

    • Current NY State driver’s license
    • Current NY State photo learner’s permit
    • Current NY State non-driver identification

Business Library Card Application
For businesses located in the HHH Library district, including counselors in special schools.

Get a Library Card In-Person
When applying for a Half Hollow Hills Library card at the Circulation Desk, an applicant must show proof that he/she lives, attends school or pays property taxes in the district. To apply for a card:

Adults should provide one piece of identification if it is one of the following valid photo IDs showing a HHHCSD address:

    • Current NY State driver’s license
    • Current NY State photo learner’s permit
    • Current NY State non-driver identification

If the above documentation is not available, then please present a photo ID and one of the following:

    • NY State motor vehicle registration
    • Car insurance card
    • Current rent bill or lease agreement
    • Tax bill
    • Bank statement
    • Current cable, phone or utility bill
    • Any piece of mail delivered by the US Post Office

Teens (attending High School) can show the same ID as adults. Alternatively, teens may present one of the following:

    • Current school photo ID
    • Working Papers
    • Current report card

Children ages 0 to 13 must have their application completed and signed by a parent or guardian who can provide the above identification/address validation on their child’s behalf.
Replacement cost for a lost or damaged card is $1.

Upon renewal of a library card, a current driver’s license, student ID, or photo ID card from the Department of Motor Vehicles with your current address must be shown along with a RECENTLY expired Half Hollow Hills Library card in good standing.

**Note: PO Boxes are not accepted as mailing addresses. Proof of residence is required.

**Note: Any of the above must be dated within the last 3 months, as indicated by the postmark or date of a printed e-bill.
