3D Printing

A MakerBot Replicator (Fifth Generation Model) is available in the Adult Reference area of the Dix Hills building. The MakerBot is available through appointments. Please be aware that a Librarian must review the file you would like to print. Read and sign the policy below. For further information, please call the Adult Reference Desk at 631-498-1236.

3D Printer Procedures and Agreement

All HHHCL patrons (age 14 and older or younger with an adult) who have a valid library card in good standing (no billed items or excessive fines) can use the 3D printer. Please be aware that several variables may cause your 3D print to not appear as represented. There may be rough edges, size variations, color substitutions, etc.

Patrons will be charged 50 cents for each 30 minutes of printing. After your item is printed, you will receive a ‘bill’ for the printing time which can be paid at the Main Circulation Desk. You will receive a receipt which can then be exchanged for your printed item.

Request an Appointment to Print
You can request an appointment with one of our “3D guides” for a hands-on experience.

  • We will help you choose a file to download and print, pick a color, and guide you through the process of printing.
  • Or you can bring in a small object to duplicate and print (between 2″ and 8″ high, less than 6 pounds.)
  • If you have created your own 3D item, e-mail the .stl, .obj, or .thing file to technology@hhhlibrary.org for review.
  • A small black and white drawing or photograph can also be sent to our printer and recreated in 3D.

Fill in the form at the bottom of this page to request an appointment.
