Candidates for Library Trustee (5 year term)

Lois Shewchuk has been a resident of Strathmore Hills in the Half Hollow Hills district for 28 years. Recently retired, she was an educator for 39 years. She is a community member, parent and wife and is devoted to the Half Hollow Hills Community Library and the many fine services it provides. “[I am] eager to represent the community in helping to maintain the program quality it has come to expect.”


Larry Bloomstein has been a resident of the district for ten years. He studied economics/ art history at Rutgers College and graduated with honors from Pace University School of Law. Larry is married to Lisa Jospa, a lifelong resident of Dix Hills. Their sons attend Vanderbilt Elementary and their daughter will join her brothers there in September. He is a partner at a Manhattan law firm. “If elected, I look forward to working with the Board and library staff to preserve and expand the already exemplary service and programs offered by the library.”


Denise Ma-Lee Burgher
has been a resident of the district for one year. She studied English at SUNY Fredonia and worked in the publishing and fund development fields before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She volunteers at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and represents her alma mater at high school college fairs. “If elected ... I do not plan to come in making new changes. … I plan to work with the current board members to improve upon the current events held at the library and to create new ones. I’m very interested in helping to plan successful events that reflect how diverse and wonderful the community of Dix Hills is.”
