Outreach
Delivery to Homebound Patrons:
Community volunteers assist our Outreach Librarian
in delivering books, magazines, DVD's, VHS tapes and CD and
cassette audio books to patrons who are unable to use the library
due to short- or long-term illness or disability. In addition,
the Outreach Program brings the library to Sunrise Assisted
Living, Dix Hills.
At the Library:
- At our Dix Hills branch:
- visually and learning disabled patrons
may use our ZoomText-equipped Internet and word processing
computer which magnifies and speaks.
- try our newly upgraded Merlin magnifier/reader.
- a Kurzweil Reader is available for magnification
of reading materials.
- we have a Listening Station for CD's
and audiocassettes, for use with music or audiobooks.
Bring your own headphones.
- Through our interloan program, patrons with
visual disabilities may borrow videos which feature full narrative
descriptions.
- Both library buildings provide access and
accommodation for individuals who are physically challenged.
